Two penthouses in San Francisco’s Russian Hill area, owned by George Shultz, are up for sale for $29 million. George Shultz was an American diplomat and economist. He is one of two people who held four different Cabinet-level positions throughout his career. George, 100, died last February. He combined the penthouses with his wife, San Francisco Chief for Protocol Charlotte Shultz to create a mansion-style house. The couple was able to renovate their home and enjoy a stunning view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We take a tour of the properties. The Summit, where the penthouses are situated, was designed by Joseph Eichler. It is one of only a few high-rise buildings in the northern part of San Francisco.
It is believed that the city passed height-limiting legislation because of its construction. This gives them unrivalled views of the cityscape. The main living area is elegantly furnished with cream sofas, curated houseplants, and allows the city’s colors to shine through. The room has a 20′ high ceiling and a wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen flows into a breakfast area, where the circular glass table with rattan chairs and the round table add a retro feel to the space. The bedroom features two spa-like bathrooms, three walk in closets, a dressing area, and a private balcony that offers views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. The main bedroom has a stylish layout and leads to a marble-clad bathroom with two walk-in closets. Both penthouses have grand staircases and central elevators. Other notable residents include Brian Boitano, figure skater, and Gavin Newsom, the governor of California. The listing is owned by Jackson Fuller Real Estate in San Francisco.
